| My cousin Cheryl is 44 and engaged. She met her fiancee, almost 15 years her junior, on a cruise ship over a year ago. He is Colombian, worked on the ship as a server, speaks broken English and has never lived in the US. They've been having a long distance relationship. He wants her to marry him in Colombia, stay there, live with him and his mostly Spanish-speaking family (she speaks no Spanish)and move away from her family, most of which live in Atlanta. She has never been married with no kids, is basically desperate to get married and have a child and is talking about getting pregant right away due to her age. She'd have to quit her job, sell or rent out her house and move to a village in Colombia with him. She has attempted to build a relationship with his sister and mother over the phone---they are criticl of her (age, weight, etc) even though she is a truly nice person.They only see each other for a few days at a time since having met but she swears she is in deep love with this man and has never been happier. She has caught him in some lies, he has a temper and he does not want to move to Atlanta to be with her. I smell trouble. I'm afraid I might never see my cousin again. The wedding date is getting closer. She says this is her "last chance". Her sisters are afraid to say anything to her. What should I do? |
